ABOUT THE SERIES: This series is designed to encourage youngsters to work independently and to teach them the process of research. The books take them step-by-step through the research process: using sources, citing sources, taking notes, organizing data, writing a paper, producing a product that reflects the research, and presenting the product orally. These skills are vital to their future success.

The stories in Ancient Civilizations focus on Ancient Egypt, The Aztecs, The Incas, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, and Ancient China.

Determine the meaning of symbols, key terms, and other domain-specific words and phrases as they are used in a specific context.

Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.

Conduct short research projects that use several sources to build knowledge through investigation of different aspects of a topic.

Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly.
Summarize a written text read aloud or information presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, quantitatively, and orally.
Summarize the points a speaker makes and explain how each claim is supported by reasons and evidence.

Report on a topic or text or present an opinion, sequencing ideas logically and using appropriate facts and relevant,
